I've been playing since August 09 and talking with people that have been playing since Vanilla often makes me wish I'd started back then. Until they talk about raids that went on for hours at a time and the weeks of grinding they put into just being geared for that raid. If I'm going to put that much effort into a game, I should be getting paid to play it. And looking at most the replies in this thread, the majority are in favor of where the game is going.
I really wish there'd be a balance of the two. I think Blizz has gone too far to the casual side. IMO, there's NO reason Arthas should be able to be downed by anyone who wants to raid (and that'll be the case in 2 more months). I think BC did a much better job of it. A LOT of people didn't see Illidan until the very tail end of BC, or even after LK. Arthas is a bad arse...he should only be beaten by leet players imo.
As said before there's still hardmode which is not accessible to casual players last time I checked. I like the way the game is evolving, I don't like to sound like a little fanboy or something, but I think they're doing a fantastic job at keeping the game interesting to casual and hardcore players alike. And I'm forever thankful they removed the 40 man raids, since it would drown my PC's resources just entering an instance with that many people ._.
I would say that WoW had it's peak on game quality in TBC (just my personal opinion). It was hard enough for the little more hardcore raiders, but still enough content to let the casuals have fun aswell. Seemingly the closest Blizz will come with balancing the game. The game continues to be simplified, and all the changes that are beeing made for Cataclysm makes me wonder how ridiculously easy it will turn out after a few patches... Lich King beeing taken down on the first day of the patch gives a little pointer imo... Yes, the game comes out as more appealing to the greater masses, but the quality deteriorates at the same rate as it's popularity grows. Take the quest rewards you get in Northrend for instance. Everything looks the same, almost as if it was thought out in 5mins and just drawn down in a hurry. Comparing the look on armor and weapons from, let's say AQ40, compared to ToC25? Unoriginal and unimaginative... The art developers have lost their Midas' touch when it comes to awesomeness.
I do not think the author of this put much thought into his/her point at all. WoW is not "easy" by any stretch of the imagination.I am not a casual gamer, but I am not hardcore either. The ICC raid I am in goes every week and we are just at Putricide. The top raids in the realm only recently killed the Lich King and are now starting to work on 10 man heroic modes. It took us a while to down Rotface and get the mechanics of the fight down, and it was satisfying when he finally died. All Blizz have done is made content for pretty much everyone. If you are a casual player you can do 5-mans and do older 10 or 25 man raids. If you are like me and play regularly you have normal ICC and Trial of the Crusader, if you are "hardcore" which the author believes all WoW players should be I guess, you are trying to get through Hard Mode ICC 10 and 25.Personally I think the death of 40man raids was the best thing Blizz has done in a long time. And I like the direction the game seems to be taking, which is a good mix of content for a huge range of players.
A nostalgia "bring back vanilla" QQ post here? Did I log into mmo-champ's forums by mistake? Quo vadis Wowhead? :(
I can stand on both sides of the boat and at the same time I like to lean toward things it takes time to do. I would absolutly love to see attunements come back but maybe at the same time after the said instance has been out for a month or two the attunement gets taken away. Still have the quests availible to attune to it but make it so you don't have to be attuned after said time. I do like that its a bit easier to gear up new toons. I have 4 myself and I can tell you if I had to get my warrior to 80 and then HAD to run him through naxx then through Ulduar Then through TOC before I could get into ICC I wouldn't like it at all.I would like to see those long quests where you have to do stuff in raid and out of raids again and I love the huge chain quests maybe not so much running from 1 to the other continent all day long but those long chain quests were fun. I will say I love the phasing and love the vehicle battle system.I love the fact that its so easy to get into stuff and at the same time I would love them to make the encounters less revolved around I NEED 9k dps to down this boss into I NEED to know how to do the boss. I miss that alot of the old bosses never had berserks and all you had to do was just be able to handle the mechanics now its all about burn him before he enrages. ICC really brought out the stratagy that it was Marrogar was not so much strat but deathwhisper and ship battle oh and don't even get me started on festergut and putricide its absolutly amazing.
I figured it was important to have someone on the other side of the equation who was around to post here. :)I go back and forth on this issue honestly. To me, as soon as I get through the game on the easiest mode I lose the motivation to go for the harder stuff—my reward for completing content is to see new content, so once there's no more new content to see I don't really care anymore. I haven't downed the Lich King yet, but if I manage to do it, there's no motivation for me to go back and do the hard modes—and the day that happens is the day I quit WoW.I can't imagine I'm the only one who feels this way, so I always imagined that if the game ever got easy enough that I was able to down the last boss, I'd be done with it. The game always needs some lofty, distant, impossible goal for us to shoot for. If you don't have that distant impossible goal, there's no reason to keep endlessly grinding. At least that's how it works for ME. Others may feel differently.
If you think the game is too easy, stop using addons. No dbm, no omen, no healbot, no decursive. Maybe that will get you back to the good old days.
